A celebration and evolution of our House codes, our FW2026 show brings together our ready-to-wear and Artisanal collections. The curiosities of a Parisian Flea market, after hours.
Materiality is explored through repurposing; tapestries healed with paillettes, dresses draped to resemble porcelain figures. Construction follows Edwardian silhouettes, based in a wardrobe that interrogates thrift essentials. For the first time, our show takes place China. This special show presented in Shanghai brings together both our ready-to-wear and our couture Artisanal collections.
The show marks the beginning of MaisonMargiela/folders, unfolding through a series of exhibitions and experiences throughout China, each dedicated to one of our foundational codes: Artisanal, Anonymity, Tabi and Bianchetto.
A Parisian flea market comes to life after hours, with found objects being retrieved and recontextualised. The effect of a porcelain doll come to life is created by airbrushed gazar covered in layers of printed glass organza. Beeswax is poured onto a dress with a seemingly endless drape. Over 150,000 gold stars are applied by hand to an Edwardian silhouette dress, taking 2975 hours. Porcelain panels are broken by hand into around 500 pieces then rounded, fixed to a dress of organza underlay.
Foundational codes are celebrated and evolved, such as the anonymity of masks, second skin garments, fusions of fabrics bonded together, assemblages of disparate materials, and bianchetto white painted pieces including the Heel-less pump.
Destroyed tapestries and distressed dresses too fragile to repair are reworked. An Artisanal dress is made from a 19th century painting that was found on the floor of a flea market, while metallic sequins are applied to a threadbare 19th century tapestry, taking 1000 hours of hand-embroidering.
Exaggerated Edwardian lines inform the FW 26 collection, in tune with our preference for extending proportions.
Dresses are cut and constructed to reshape the body. Our team experiments with treatment and casting to transform materials. Found jewellery is moulded into a cast, leaving only the negative: the impression of the pearls and pendants that lay beneath. An Artisanal silk dress is coated in beeswax, solidifying its surface into a cracked texture, as if recovered from a previous life.
